《摩斯探长前传》第八季已经获得预订，共3集，预计2021年秋季播出。本季过后，该剧总集数将与“牛津探案”系列剧的另外两部《摩斯探长》和《刘易斯探案》一样达到33集。同时本季可能是该剧最终季。
